National Bank Financial Group Collectors Symposium The third Collectors Symposium, sponsored by National Bank Financial Group, took place on November 12. Diane Vachon was the Honorary Chair of this benefit event organized by the Foundation, and the evening was chaired by Jean-Claude Baudinet. The goal of the Symposium is to allow participants to share in the experience of sitting on an acquisition committee. And so, following the presentations of the three works proposed by the curators, and thanks to the proceeds of the event, the guests selected the pieces by Ed Pien and Patrick Bernatchez. The upcoming Symposium will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010
Les Printemps du MAC This past April 23, Les Printemps du MAC presented the AVANT-GARDE evening. The event was designed to increase awareness of the MAC among the next generation and interest young businesspeople in today’s art and the creative endeavour. The fourth edition of this very special evening unfolded in a museum mysteriously transformed for the occasion. Under the outstanding leadership of this year’s co-chairs Anna Antonopoulos (Groupe Antonopoulos) and Pascal de Guise (BCF), the event was a great success: more than 900 people attended and record proceeds were handed over to the Foundation. The organizing committee also comprised: Emmanuel Amar (IDX Design), Roberto Bellini (Bellus Health Inc.), Christine Boivin (AndyThé-Anh), Allison Dent (Global M&A Inc.), Karine Joizil (Fasken Martineau), Mélanie Joly (Cohn & Wolfe), Catherine Malouin (Ernst & Young), Louis-Simon Ménard (Digital Dimension), Ranya Nasri (Nasri International), Gilles Ostiguy (Bos), Antony Rizzuto (Métrocom s.e.c.) and François Rochon (Giverny Capital).
Joining the Foundation Joining the Foundation means supporting the country’s premier institution dedicated exclusively to today’s art. It also means sharing in its mission, which is to promote and preserve contemporary Québec, Canadian and international art. Clearly, it includes providing support for a dozen or so major exhibitions held here every year, as well as travelling exhibitions that tour North America and Europe. In addition, it means lending assistance to a wide array of activities such as film and video screenings, symposiums and meetings with artists. It also involves joining in building the Collection, which currently comprises over 7,000 works produced by more than 1,500 artists from here in Québec, across Canada and around the world. Supporting the Foundation further means adding to the museum’s Media Centre, the largest library in Canada devoted to contemporary art.
