Montréal Museums Day At the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal - Beyond Appearances
Sunday, May 29, 2005
Montréal, May 10, 2005. Beyond Appearances is the theme guiding this year's Montréal Museums Day at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, scheduled for Sunday, May 29, 2005. Admission is free from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Shuttle buses run from the Journal de Montréal building. The Musée is on the blue line.
Beyond Appearances
Just opening, the new exhibition Appearances features eleven Québec and Canadian artists. Counterfeiting, deception, visual puzzle, confusion ... Each of the strategies adopted in the sixty-odd pieces in Appearances skilfully evades a superficial reading. Figure out the hidden tricks in these works, where what you see is not necessarily what you see.
Three other exhibitions are also on view. The video installation Fiona Tan. Saint Sebastian will speak to your eyes and your heart. In the galleries devoted to the permanent collection, the exhibition Place à la magie! will bring to life the history of Québec painting of the forties, fifties and sixties. Rediscover Borduas, Ferron, Molinari, Pellan, Riopelle and their contemporaries. With Matters of Time and Space, explore today's art through the Musée's recent acquisitions.
Activities for all
Strips Ahoy! is an art workshop inspired by the work Marine by Jérôme Fortin, one of the artists in the exhibition Appearances. Using thin strips of coloured polyethylene and scissors, participants (age four and up) will create a circular work. Schedule: 1, 1:30, 2, 2:30, 3 and 3:30 p.m. Free admission. Forty-five minutes of exuberant fun.
Meet the artists: Ana Rewakowicz at 1 p.m. (in English) and Jérôme Fortin at 2:30 p.m. (in French) in the galleries devoted to Appearances.
Educators will be on hand in the exhibition galleries all day long to tell you everything you always wanted to know about contemporary art but were afraid to ask.
Plus a group activity that promises fun for the whole family.
