MONTREAL ALL-NIGHTER
at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal

Montréal, January 25, 2005 – As part of the Montreal All-Nighter held in connection with the 2005 Montreal High Lights Festival, the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal will be open to the public, free of charge, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the night of February 26-27. Follow a moonbeam to discover some of the leading lights of contemporary art here and abroad. Explore the works of Québec artist Michel Goulet, be transported into the world of emotion and memory by the exhibition of works by the South African William Kentridge, and enjoy a close, humorous look at some of the high and low points that have contributed to building our collective identity by contemplating the works of Cynthia Girard. And take in a performance of the multimedia work “Ondulation,” a composition for water, sound and light presented in a pool set up in one of the museum galleries. As well, the popular Radio-Canada radio show Macadam Tribus will be broadcast live from the museum starting at 8 p.m.

Exhibitions:

MICHEL GOULET
Part Life, Part Game
Using objects taken from everyday life, Michel Goulet reveals the main concerns of an uncommon sculptural practice and its relation to the conditions of existence. In addition to works from the Collection, the exhibition includes two new pieces by Goulet along with recent graphic works.

WILLIAM KENTRIDGE
William Kentridge transports us into a world of emotion and memory. Film, drawing, charcoal, bronze sculpture and animation are all featured in this confrontation between desire and social responsibility. One of the year’s major events at the MACM!

CYNTHIA GIRARD
Fictions sylvestres (Sylvan Fictions)
Drawing inspiration from history painting and the documentary, as well as popular illustration, Cynthia Girard takes a keen, humorous look at some of the high and low points that have helped form our collective identity.

PLACE À LA MAGIE !
This selection features works from the Collection by key figures who influenced developments in contemporary artistic expression in Québec during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

Live performance the same evening at 8 p.m.:

ONDULATION
Composition for water, sound and light
Thomas McIntosh with Mikko Hynninen and Emmanuel Madan
An immense pool of water is set in motion by the vibrations produced by powerful underwater loudspeakers. Beams of light are positioned to simultaneously strike and reflect off the water’s surface. The images created by the light’s reflection are then projected onto a screen.
