Liza Frulla President of the Fondation du Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal
Montréal, June 14, 2006. The Fondation du Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal is proud to announce the election of Liza Frulla as President of the Foundation at its 23rd annual meeting, which was held on June 13 at 6 p.m.
Ms. Frulla has had a remarkable political career, at both the federal and provincial levels. She was Minister of Canadian Heritage from 2004 to 2006, and Minister of Culture and Communications of Québec from 1990 to 1994. It was during her term in the latter post that the Musée d’art contemporain moved into its downtown home in 1992. Indeed, Ms. Frulla has presided over some major changes on both the local and international scenes. Most notably, she was a key player in the effort to get UNESCO to adopt the convention on the protection of cultural diversity. A communicator by profession, she has always applied her enthusiasm and dedication to serving the cause of art and culture. She has demonstrated her commitment once again by accepting the position of President of the Fondation du Musée d’art contemporain, serving in a volunteer capacity, as do all the members of the Foundation’s Board.
Two particular issues are at the top of her agenda: supporting the Musée’s ongoing growth, and making art, and the Musée, a place of social mediation: “I am delighted to be joining a dynamic team that is truly devoted to contemporary art. I think that, together, we will be able to foster an appreciation of this art for what it is: an artistic expression of today’s reality in a constantly changing world. Art opens the mind, and it is important today to be open to all forms of expression, all points of view, all our various differences.”
Members of the Board of Directors were also named at the Foundation’s annual meeting: Manon Blanchette, Richard Chagnon, Lyse Charrette, Marcel Côté, François Del’Aniello, Manuela Goya, Mélanie Joly, Louise Laframboise, Pierre Nolin, Jean Saucier, Anik Trudel and Diane Vachon. Marc DeSerres, Chairman of the Board of the Musée, and Marc Mayer, Director, also sit on the Foundation’s Board as representatives of the Musée d’art contemporain. Sylvie Cameron is Director of the Foundation.
We all join with Marc DeSerres in congratulating Ms. Frulla on her election, and thank the outgoing President of the Foundation, Jean Saucier, who remains a member of the Board.
