Arrimage 2007: Art and Light
An illuminating exhibition of work by elementary students at the Musée d'art contemporain

From April 21 to May 20, 2007

Montréal, April 11, 2007. Spring is back in full force this year with the exhibition Arrimage 2007: Art and Light, a new initiative of the Élève artiste project.

In preparation for the event, over 800 kids visited the Musée d’art contemporain, intent on learning more about today’s contemporary art practices. As a result of their observations, and inspired by the artistic approaches they discovered and by a single theme – light – the students created a group of magnificent works positively brimming with brilliant ideas.

In producing their works, the students received guidance from their visual arts or class teachers. Whatever the genre – installation, painting, sculpture, assemblage or mixed media – the works on view constitute an incandescent burgeoning of materials and techniques. Using light either literally or symbolically, the various projects explore such subjects as the environment, space, time, vision and perception of the world. The exhibition is composed of some twenty works produced for the most part in elementary schools run by several different school boards in the Montréal area.

Organized by the Direction artistique et éducative of the Musée d’art contemporain, this presentation is part of the Supporting Montréal Schools section of the Access to Cultural Resources program, an initiative of Quebec’s Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport in partnership with the Montréal Science Centre, which will host the projects during the summer.

The Musée d’art contemporain enthusiastically invites youngsters of all ages to come and visit the exhibition, on view from April 21 to May 20 in the MAC’s Beverley Webster Rolph Hall. Admission to Arrimage 2007: Art and Light is free.

The Musée is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Wednesday until 9 p.m.).
